Gift Ideas: Give the Gift of Mindfulness

Looking for some fresh gift ideas that truly help to enrich the lives of your loved ones? Mindfulness is something we all can use more of with our busy and often stressful schedules. Sometimes the best gift you can give is one that encourages mindfulness practices. This is the practice of staying in the present moment and noticing your surroundings to clear your mind and bring a sense of peace. This can be one heck of a beneficial gift to a stressed out friend!

Take a gift I received last year from one of my closest friends for example; she gave me the book A Year of Positive Thinking by Cyndie Spiegel with the promise to go through each reflective quote with me throughout the year. I loved this book! It was a daily reminder to be mindful of my thoughts and emotions. Through daily inspiration, wisdom and encouragement, this gift truly brought more mindfulness moments into my life and I consider it one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. So my first suggestion for a gift idea is this incredible book!

Another gift idea that’s great for people who need some help slowing down is an art class. You can take the class together or encourage your friend to go along for a night of peace. Art is a wonderful way to practice mindfulness plus it’s the perfect outlet for pent up creativity. It can be a soothing way to release difficult emotions and you have a finished piece of art work at the end to decorate your home as a reminder to be more mindful!

I know so many people who are intrigued by the idea of yoga, but are intimidated to try something new. It’s easy to feel pretty vulnerable in a new yoga class. I was reluctant to try it for years, until a friend bought me a yoga pass as a birthday gift. I felt as though I had no choice but to give it a try. You have to know your friend and choose which ones may benefit from a yoga class gift, but I’ll tell you it opened up my world. Not only did I have a blissful hour of practicing mindfulness but I obtained a new hobby that was good for my mind, body and spirit. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving!

My final gift idea is one that is great to do together or with a group of people and that’s to sign up to walk a 5k. You can create your own certificate that says you are covering the registration fee for the race of their choice to walk together. By choosing a race that goes through the woods or a new part of town, your daily walk can be turned into a mindful adventure as you take in the new sites, all while getting your daily exercise. Plus you often get a fun medal showing your accomplishment!

With some brainstorming I’m sure we could all come up with many more gift ideas that encourage mindfulness. And I think if you position your gift as something that will help to clear their mind and improve their outlook, you can show the value of the gift beyond the one time activity.
